Tarnished Silver

So, still on a Heather Dale kick, and this song is absolutely beautiful!  Enjoy!

Apparently it's about the reconciliation between Arthur and Morgana as she takes him to Avalon.  Super pretty!

Staaaar Treeeeek!!!

Oh my badness, just saw the new Star Trek movie and OH MY BADNESS!!!!  So awesome!  Such great story-telling, they tied it together really well in the end!  And then the million twists with Khan!  Benedict Cumberbatch is a man of many talents (don't believe me, see Sherlock!).  So good. :)

Shamless Plug

Hey guys, there is an absolutely amazing book coming out on Amazon on Friday called "The Swan Prince" by Danielle Shipley.  How do I know it's amazing?  Because she posted an excerpt from it on her blog, http://everonword.wordpress.com, and from what I can tell, she has a really fun writing style (as in, really knows her characters well.  Personally, I can't wait to buy it!  As soon as I actually get an account on Amazon...

Cookies for Lunch...

Is a really bad idea.  Why?  Because they are not very substantial.  You get hungry, then cranky, then when you get home from work you eat anything you can find (which, four days after your birthday, generally involves chocolate).
Moral of the story?  When you plan on using your lunch break for something other than lunch, remember to bring lunch with you.

Late

I have officially joined the ranks of dedicated writers.  Why?  Because I stayed up past one in the morning writing.
Yeah, probably not my brightest idea, but hey, I don't have to work today, so why not?  And I got a lot done!
Something tells me I'm gonna be feeling this later, though. ;)

Birthday Fun (or David Tenant in My Closet)

So, I said yesterday I don't usually do much for my birthday.  However, it seems other people do.  You see, I had gone to Panda Express for lunch (I love that place) when I got a text from Kay asking when I would get back, so she could heat up left-overs she had and we could eat together.  As I was already in the drive-through, I told her I would be home in, like, five minutes (yes, I am using "like" in text, don't judge me!).  I thought on it no more, but when I finally made it up to my apartment door, I was surprised to see streamers spelling "Happy Birthday" all over it.  I couldn't help but grin, as I assumed it was another friend who tends to decorate my doors.  However, when I walked in, I discovered there was more inside.  There were blue and white streamers everywhere, and on the table was a cake and several presents, including a stuffed Mushu from the Disney store.  I was starting to get a sneaking suspicion about who was really behind this (Mia had been asking me who my favorite Disney character was).
There was one small problem.  I knew that if Mia was in on this, so was Kay... and I couldn't find Kay!  She was neither in the living room, nor her bedroom.  I did, however, notice that there were more streamers hanging from my bedroom doorframe.  I peeked into my room...
And started laughing.
There was a cardboard cut-out of David Tenant standing in my closet, giving me that look with the one eyebrow raised and his arms folded.  Then Kay popped out from behind my fencing bag, and Mia came out from the dresses in the closet, and we all had lunch and cake and it was awesome!
Thanks for making such an awesome birthday, guys!

Birthday!

Gah, I am so sorry I forgot to post yesterday!  There was fencing... and Merlin... and life is crazy... Yeah, sorry about that.
In other news, guess what today is?  IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!
Not that I have many plans.  New jeans, Panda Express for lunch, and dinner with Mom and Dad tonight.  But I still have the library to go to (which I am so not complaining about), and it's not like life is on hold.  I really don't do much for birthdays.  :)
Still, Kay gave me a beautiful gift, a lovely selection of earrings and a locket.  :)  I'm very happy.

Last Lunch

Work was just a tad depressing today.  Why?  Because Rachel, our amazing entity specialist guru, is leaving.  She's moving back to her home state, to be where things are green again. ;)  While we're all happy for her, we are also going to miss her, a lot (and not only because she's the best person to go to when we've got questions on how to do stuff ;)).
With today being her last day, Rachel wanted to do something special.  And, since her home state has no Cafe Rio, she decided to invite us all out to lunch (and by all, I mean the entity specialists and another friend)!  It was really nice.  Of course, Cafe Rio is always nice, but it was nice to be able to talk to her about stuff not involving work.
We's gonna miss you, Rachel.
Luckily, she'll still be working for the company, but from home.  She's a very important person. :)
By the way, thank you all for your prayers for my sister.  She's coming home today or tomorrow. :)

Oklahoma

Hey guys, I'd just like to ask you all to pray for those in Oklahoma.  Some may not have heard, there was a very violent tornado that went through the state, and everything has been destroyed.  I would appreciate if you prayed particularly for those with small children: last I heard most of the younger elementary students are still missing.  Thank you.

Penelope

Y'know what movie I absolutely love?  Penelope.  That movie about the girl with the nose of a pig?  Soooo sweet!  One of the cutest love stories I've ever seen!
In case you can't tell, I'm watching it right now!  :)

EVERYWHERE!!!!

I walk outside, and BOOM!!  Birds EVERYWHERE!  I don't know where they came from!  Last week, we had the occasional seagull.  This week there are, like, a bajillion finches all building nests on the sides of the apartment, and they're constantly diving around in the parking lot (I think all the birds here are adrenaline junkies).  It's freaking me out just a little.  Though it is fun when the not-so-occasional finch pops onto the ledge outside my window. :)

And then there's this, just because I think it looks sooo epic!

Sneaky

So, last week was a really stressful time for me.  Then I came home from work to discover my room was covered in hidden sticky notes!  Sneaky Kay!
Well, she may or may not have a bit of a surprise when she comes home from the chalk art festival... ;)

Lonely

I thought I could handle it, and for the first little while I did, but I'll admit, being the only one at the apartment this week is getting really lonely.  Kay is at the chalk art festival, Kah is working, and Whit is moving (though it was nice to finally meet her, she came home for, like twelve hours).  It's so quiet.  I miss people.

Piano Lessons!

I know, I know, I should have taken piano a long time ago.  I have no excuse.  However, now I will finally be learning!  Why?  Because my amazing sister-in-law, Kar, wants to start teaching piano, and I get to be her experimental rodent (because I can't figure out how to spell guinea... Oh.  There we go.  Guinea pig!)!  She and Ju will be teaching me piano!
Now I just need to find one to practice on. ;)

Lily Maid

So, I have a slight obsession with Arthurian legends that may or may not have to do with Merlin...  and the other day I found the most beautiful song about one of the minor characters, Elaine of Shalott.
The story is that Elaine met Lancelot at a tournament and fell in love, so she asked him to wear her token while jousting.  Like the heart-breaking moron that he was, he accepted (I have serious issues with Lancelot, just so you know).  However, he was injured while jousting, and Elaine saved his life.  He offered to pay her, which offended her a lot (seriously, guys, at the very least get her flowers!).  He finally realized just how much she felt for him... so he ran off.  To be with Guinevere.  His best friend's wife (again, issues with Lancelot, I don't know why everyone sings this man's praises!).  Ten days later, Elaine died of heartbreak, and her body was found floating in a boat down the river to Camelot, with a lily in one hand and her last letter to Lancelot in the other.  Lancelot, feeling guilty, paid for her funeral.
I meant to upload the video, but I can't find it! >:(  You'll just have to look it up!  "Lily Maid" by Heather Dale.

Once Upon A Time in Wonderland

So, I know there have been a lot of Once post lately... but I also know that you all know I'm a geek!
I just saw the first promo for Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and it looks really good!  I wasn't all that excited about it at first, because I thought it would just be a cheap rip-off of Once Upon a Time, but they actually have a really interesting plot (one I think Kay would highly approve of ;)) and a relatable character.  So, I'm looking forward to seeing it this fall!

Oh my badness guys, I just watched the season finale for Once Upon a Time, and OH MY BADNESS!!!  No spoilers this go around, but FEEEELSSS!!  I nearly cried!  And I feel like a jerk for not crying more!!!  So good, but WHY writers, WHY?!
Do I sound obsessed to you?

Thumps

So, you know how last Sunday I was shooting plates with nerf guns?  Well, they're back (the nerf guns, I mean, the plates never left)!  Except, this time I wasn't involved, though I was highly amused.
Last night Kah, my other roommate, had some of her friends over, and somehow they got into the nerf guns.  I assumed they were just shooting them at each other, but I couldn't really tell because I was in my room writing.
Suddenly, there was a thump on the door.  At first I thought it was a misfire, but then they kept thumping.  When I finally stuck my head out (a touch nervously, I didn't want to get hit), I found to my surprise that Kah and her friend had lined up in the hallway and were shooting each other in straight lines rather than guerilla style as I had expected.
I don't know why, but the sight of Kah's friend right in front of my door with a nerf gun set me off laughing.  I think they all assume I'm crazy (except for Kah, who already knows the truth!)!

Lazy

So... I really don't feel like doing anything today.  Like, at all.  I just feel so very content.  I finally have pictures up on my wall, I got a good nights sleep, and the sun is shining brightly with a beautiful breeze outside.
On the other hand, I need to get food.  And then clean two bathrooms if I want an extra $25.  Oh, choices, choices.  I also have the library, but I don't actually count that as doing anything since I enjoy it so much.

Fare thee well, friend!

A Change

There are some days when it's difficult to tell how the Lord has blessed you... and then there are days when it's staring you in the face, and you can't help but smile.
This week started out really rough.  I was stressed and unhappy, and easily frustrated.  It came to a head when I nearly T-boned someone because they were turning without right of way on my way to work.  So.  Frustrating.
But then...
Then Tier offered me a frosty.  And Kay left me notes all around my room (I'm still finding them).  And Heather laughed at my pun, which never happens because Heather hates puns.  And we had rain this week.  And everything has been working out perfectly for me even though I didn't think it would and I got to have lunch with Emma (who finally got her call and is going to West Virginia!!) and I got two paychecks right when I really needed them and... and...
And yeah.  Life is fantastic now!

Happy Surprises

Wow.  I get surprised a lot, don't I?
In any case, today did not start out well.  Do you ever have those dreams where someone does something that really ticks you off, and you just wake up grouchy?  Yeah, that was me this morning.  I don't even remember what Miah had done to make me mad in my dream, but I was miffed.
So I went to work rather grouchy.  I was not happy.  But then someone did something that restored my faith in humanity!
Tier, in customer services, bought us all frosties. :)  She is a lovely person.
But the happy surprises didn't end there!  At the end of the day my uber-supervisor (technically he's my actually supervisor, but he supervises EVERYTHING!!) pulled my group aside and said if we all reached our goal for this month, we'd each get two tickets to the super-expensive local movie theatres!  And then, when I came home, guess what super-awesome roommate left happy notes all over the place for me?!  You rock so much, Kay!
And that, my friends, is how you turn a rotten week into a pleasant one!

Happy Birthday, Kay!

As you can guess, today is my wonderful roommate and dear friend Kay's birthday!  Happy Birthday, friend!  I hope the rainy day and the crazy surprises Sarnic left in your car made it memorable!  Now, if only acceptance emails from the publishing company we submitted to would come.  That would be an awesome present!

The Waiting Game

I am going crazy.
Not that I wasn't crazy already, but... more so.  Why?  Because I've begun the waiting game.  You know, that annoying part of a writer's career when you submit something, then check your mail every few hours to see if you got any response yet.
I hate the waiting game.  I will be so disappointed if the answer is no.

Target Practice

So, I don't use guns.  At all.  Mostly because my aim is atrocious.  How am I supposed to hit the blasted target when my hand is going all over the place?!  Besides, I was more interested in books and animals growing up.
Yesterday it all changed.
One of my roomies, Kah, had a nerf gun and darts sitting on the couch after a battle with our home teacher (from what I can make out, though I may be wrong).  I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but somehow we ended up taping a few of Kay's plates to the back of our dining room chairs and having a bit of target practice before church.
I think the best moment was when I accidentally shot too high, the dart bounced against the wall, and then landed in the fishbowl.  Poor Dr. Seuss (The fish). :)

I Know You!

Last night my friend Heather and I had planned to watch a Japanese version of Macbeth (we're both huge Shakespeare buffs).  However, halfway through the day she texted me asking if it would be all right if she invited other people.  I was okay with that, but there was still the idea that I would have to meet new people and make awkward small talk.  That or shrink into a shell and not talk to anybody. ;)  Well, I found her place, and we talked for a little bit, and then Heather got a call from her other friend (there was just one other) asking which apartment was hers (she just moved in).  She opened the door to let her friend know, and I waited to see just who it was who would be walking through the door.
She walked in, and believe it or not, my first thought was, "I knew it!"
My second was, "Hey, I know you!"  We'd met in my Shakespeare class this last semester.  We'd even studied together!
Ironically, when I first met her, I remember thinking how similar she was to Heather.  Hence my thought, "I knew it!"

Unpacking

So, now that I've moved in, I've had to start the oh-so-fun last part of moving in.  Unpacking.  EVERYTHING!!!  I've discovered I have serious excess in three areas: jewelry, hats, and BOOKS!  Seriously, I have books all over the place!  I was seriously scared I wasn't gonna have room for them all!  Luckily, these apartments have a lot of shelf space. :)  And funnily enough, going through all my books I found books I hadn't even remembered I had (namely Once Upon a Time retellings).  It's a very happy moment when you realize you actually have the books you've been wanting for ages. ;)
I've got most of the unpacking done now, I just need to hang up my dresses and my cloak.  Which means I have to get hangers.  Foo.

A Moving Surprise

Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to write, but I had a bit of a surprise yesterday.  Halfway through work the apartment office called me back and said I was approved to move in... the next day.  Which meant after I got home I spent all day packing, and today I've been moving in!  Which means... I'm moved in!  I am now living with Kay as my roommate, I have my own room, and I'm on my own.
Wow.  Kinda weird, but also marvelously liberating.  I can take care of myself, and that's nice to know.
So, yeah, sorry about missing a day, I was moving.  Luckily, I don't have as much junk as I was expecting, so it didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would!  Mostly I just have a lot of books.  And round-shaped stuffed animals. ;)

Fare thee well, friend!

Reasons for Marriage

This is a topic I've been coming across a lot lately, so I thought I'd throw my two cents in.  Being a woman, I will be speaking from a woman's perspective, but I believe this works for guys as well.
It seems that marriage has become less and less important in the past decade.  People seem to think living together is enough, and even if they do end up marrying, they have likely been living together for some time already.  Yet some people wonder why divorce rates have gone up in the last decade or so.  Believe it or not, there is a correlation.
See, marriage is the result of love.  Ladies, if this guy doesn't love you enough to commit to love you and be with you until death, why on EARTH would you give him your most precious possession?  If he really loves you, he'll wait for you.  If you want marriage, and he's pushing for intimacy before, then you can guess what it is he's interested in.  Don't fall for it!  If he tells you that if you love him you'll prove it, HE IS MANIPULATING YOU!!!  You prove love by caring about someone, not by giving in to their demands.
Living together outside of marriage is not the result of love, it is the result of want.  Even if the two people love each other, they are not living together because they want to spend their lives together.  Some people say that marriage is only a piece of paper.  If that is true, what's the big deal with actually getting married?  If it's only a paper, what harm is it doing you?
I get that this might offend some readers, but I'm not going to apologize for it.  So many people think marriage is a problem, and IT IS NOT.  Marriage is an expression of love and devotion, commitment and promises.  It is NOT an oppression of women, it is NOT a useless piece of paper.  If you can't see yourself married to this person, leave him.  If neither of you are willing to make the commitment to marry, then don't put everything you have on the table.

Fare thee well, friend!
